By MBLCommunications July 24, 2024 Share Articles Categories Education UChicago Marta Pantin is a biochemistry major at the University of Chicago (Class of 2026). She's spending the summer at the Marine Biological Laboratory as a Metcalf Intern. The Jeff Metcalf SURF Program is an opportunity exposing University of Chicago students to the world-class science conducted at the Ůֱ. Pantin is spending her summer working in the lab of MBLmicrobiologist Scott Chimileski researching how bacteria organize themselves in the human oral microbiome. She told the University of Chicago that she hopes this research can one day inform important healthcare efforts such as optimizing drug delivery. This internship builds on Marta’s rigorous coursework and her previous experiences as a research assistant.
