It is with sadness that we share the passing of MBLSociety Emeritus member Donald A.Abt, VMD who died on July 27, 2022. The MBLflag will be lowered in his memory.
Dr. Abt had a long career as a faculty member and administrator at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. From 1989 to 1999 he was the Director of PENN’s Laboratory of Aquatic Animal Medicine and Pathology at the Ůֱ. He was the founding Director of the AQUAVET program (held at the MBLfrom 1977 to 2009), a position he held for 25 years. In 2001 he retired from PENN as Professor Emeritus of Aquatic Animal Medicine and Pathology.
Dr. Abt served on the Ůֱ’s Marine Resource Committee, year-round scientist committee, governance committee, and Science Council.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022 at 1:30 PM at the First Congregational Church, 68 Main St, Falmouth, MA. A light reception will follow.
