1.0    Policy Statement:
In accordance with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, MBLprohibits the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession, or use of a controlled substance in the workplace.  The workplace includes all MBLproperty as well as any off-site location where MBLbusiness is conducted.  MBLis required to maintain a drug-free workplace and learning environment not only for the safety and health of its community, but also because it is a federal contractor and failure to comply with the Drug-Free Workplace Act could result in the loss of federal funds.

2.0    MBLis committed to the establishment of a drug awareness program to educate its community on the dangers of drug abuse and conduct periodic training.  Ůֱ’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available to provide assessment and referral for employees and their families who seek help through this confidential service.  Information about the EAP can be found on the Staff pages of the MBLweb site or from the Human Resources Office.

3.0    Employees are required to adhere to the drug-free workplace policy as a condition of employment.  Employees are also required to notify their supervisors and the MBLHuman Resources Manager within five days if they are convicted of a criminal drug violation in the workplace.  Employees who violate the drug-free workplace policy will be subject to disciplinary action anywhere from required participation in an appropriate rehabilitation or counseling program up to termination.  At the time of hire, all employees receive information on Ůֱ’s drug-free workplace policy as well as the EAP program.

4.0    Faculty, students, and visitors are required to adhere to this policy as a condition of participating in MBLactivities and of occupying laboratory or library space at the MBLand, if found in violation, will be asked to leave the MBLimmediately without refund of fees and with the possibility of a ban from future use of Ůֱ’s facilities.  Information about this policy is sent to them electronically prior to their arrival at the Ůֱ.
